Visually toys in the attic is a stunning remarkable film made by a true craftsman. Toys in the attic is a 1963 american drama film directed by george roy hill and starring dean martin geraldine page yvette mimieux gene tierney and wendy hiller the film is based on a tony award winning play of the same name by lillian hellman the screenplay adaptation is by james poe and the original music score was composed by george duning. Dean martin stars as julian a man who s made a career out of losing jobs and money. Then they all eat cake.

Toys in the attic is truly an amazing film not to be missed while it s on the big screen. But to american audiences brought up on disney and pixar the scene might be too frightening and creepy grotesque even to be considered appropriate for younger audiences. Behind closed doors and in the dark we all wished that our dear and most treasured toys would come to life. Toys in the attic is a somewhat watered down version of lillian hellman s play but enough of the original emotional savagery has been retained to satisfy those who prefer their melodramatic meat.
